Our History
Byars Funeral Home is a family owned & operated business with great care given to each family we serve. We provide pre planning services which tremendously relieves the emotional and financial stress associated with funeral planning.
We are one of the most reasonable priced funeral homes in the area. We provide detailed professional service at affordable prices.
Marty Byars began his funeral service career in 1977. His family was in the funeral service business and he realized his calling at an early age. At Byars Funeral Home & Cremation Services we are always available to you 24 hours a day. Please call with any questions you may have or if you need our professional services. Byars Funeral Home is a member of the Memorial Society of Georgia.
We provide professional funeral services to comfort and assist your family in making difficult decisions at a difficult time. Our comfortable, homelike setting will place you at ease, and you will feel confident in relying upon our experienced, professional staff to help you in any way possible.
We have a nursery, play room for all ages, ample space for food and beverages to be served to friends and family.

Our Valued Staff
Marty Byars, Funeral Director, President of Byars Funeral Home & Cremation Services
Marty is married to his loving wife Cindy and has three children. Paxton age 6, Shelton age 16 and Taylor age 21.
He is a 1982 Graduate of Mid-American College of Funeral Service in Louisville, KY. He is Board Certified by the National Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards. He also graduated from Lipscomb University, Nashville, TN where he majored in Psychology and Counseling. He is also a National Speaker in the Funeral Industry and authored a book in 2009.
He is an active member of the community. Past Ambassador of the Year Chamber of Commerce, Board Member Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, Lieutenant Governor Georgia Kiwanis, Board of Director Keep Forsyth County Beautiful, Board of Director Forsyth County YMCA, Board of Director Sawnee Cultural Arts Center, Kiwanis member for over 15 years.
He authored a book, “I Chose Death”. Marty has over 30 years experience in the funeral industry and is the President of Byars Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Byars Funeral Home is dedicated to providing the highest level of professional dedicated service to every family we serve.

Jim Benton, Operations Manager
Jim is a 1992 Graduate from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, Houston, Texas with Honors. He was inducted into the National Fraternity for Morticians. He was Board Certified by the National Conference of Funeral Services Examining Boards in 1992. He is proud to be a third generation carrying on a family tradition with over 30 years of dedicated experience in the funeral profession.
Jim graduated from San Jacinto College in 1986 with his Emergency Medical Services- Paramedic. He has since retired after 24 years of experience as an Emergency Paramedic.
Jim was the past Deputy Coroner for the Forsyth County Coroner’s Office under Mr. Buck Ingram. In addition Jim was a past Director of Operations for the Forsyth County Emergency Ambulance Service.
Jim served as the Chairman of the Governors Child Fatality Review Committee,
Rural Fire District Commissioner and was appointed by the governor to serve on the Board establishing the 9-1-1 emergency communications program.
Jim is an expert in assisting families with filing death benefits, VA Benefits and is the registered agent for the filing of all the Certified Death Certificates and related documents for our firm.

Russell Powell, Funeral Associate
Russell is a native resident of Forsyth County and a member of Cumming New Life Church. He is married to his loving wife Heather and has two kids, Reese and Gavin.
He is very active in his church ministry and community programs. In addition to his outreach ministry to kids, he is a valued support member of the funeral home staff.
When asked to help complete this biographical ‘snapshot,’ this is what Russell had to say:
“I’ve found that working with the staff of Byars Funeral Home & Cremation Services is a very enriching experience. They are warm, knowledgeable and very professional – every day I learn something new. I especially enjoy serving the families who come to us. Each family has unique needs, and it’s my pleasure to tend to those needs as best I can.”
David Bradley, Funeral Assistant
David and his loving wife Patricia live in Cumming, Georgia. David retired from the Dekalb County Fire Department after 28 years of service.
He is a volunteer member of the Forsyth County Fire Department and coordinates the award winning Fire Department Honor Guard, a group of dedicated firemen that honor the lives of men and women that have proudly served us all in the field of public safety and the armed forces.
A retired fire lieutenant with the DeKalb County Fire/Rescue Department, David continues to coordinate the Forsyth County Fire Department Honor Guard. In fact, he organized and coordinated 71 Honor Guard details, many of which were multi-day public safety funerals.
In November of 2010, Governor Sonny Perdue recognized his commitment to service with the 2010 Governor's Public Safety Award. David was one of only 20 award recipients statewide.
David is a proud member of the Byars Funeral Home staff, serving the families we serve with compassionate and professional service. He is always here to help a family when they need it the most.
